PLANTS NEWS : Pupils plant green shoots for the future. CHILDREN planted 30 saplings as part of a school’s push to promote the environment around them. Youngsters from St Mellons Church in Wales Primary School, Llanrumney, Cardiff, spruced up their surroundings last week. Members of the Green Shoots eco group planted cherry and dog rose trees, courtesy of a national supermarket chain. In partnership with the Woodland Trust, Sainsbury’s has been dishing out free plants to schools after a pledge to plant two million trees over the next five years. The planting was due to take place during November’s National Tree Week, but a bout of adverse weather delayed proceedings.
